allbedestroyed: (Problem solving)
For a man whose perfect day involves hiking out into the wilderness alone to track a rare animal, an evening at a fancy party is not something to look forward to. The only consolation is in having good company to share it with. Making sure his friend has a good time is a much better goal than schmoozing the other guests.

After going through the ordeal of renting a tuxedo, and a car, he's around to pick Miriam up at the address she provided. Muldoon is uncomfortable in the unfamiliar clothing, and apprehensive about surviving an upper class dinner, but at least he knows he'll be in some good company. Worst comes to worst, Miriam will have some extra material to work with for her shows.

Ringing the doorbell, Muldoon tries not to look as awkward as he feels.

The island's largest collection of whiskey undoubtedly resides in Robert Muldoon's possession. This is a generally accepted fact. Others might have wine or tequila, but the whiskey was pretty much all Muldoon's. So when Arcade held his hat hostage, he only really had one thing of value to offer. It's no small mercy, however, that the vet turned down taking a whole bottle from his stash. A few drinks would do, and Muldoon never turned down an excuse to have a few glasses. Getting his hat back in return works out very nicely indeed.

He's still in his uniform when Arcade appears. A combination of always working late, and often being called out after hours means he long ago stopped bothering with changing after work. Like most department heads, he gets a nice (if compact) bungalow for his accommodation. Not that Muldoon spends much time in his. Beyond a few photographs, and a few books, he hasn't added any personal touches to his place. It's all very utilitarian.

When he opens the door the first thing he does is look for the hat. Only once he spots it does he step aside and wave Arcade inside. "Come on in."

Being comfortable in Costa Rica is difficult these days. It's not the country's fault, of course, and given that he'll soon be heading into its wilderness it's bound to improve. Even being on the edge of a smaller town is a bit too close to civilisation in a place where it's clear the government isn't too fond of anyone aligned with InGen. But what was he to do? Leave it to someone else to make sure death and destruction was kept to the islands?

After the incident he'd expected that his work here was done, and that he'd never need to see a stern faced Costa Rican official again. But when has life ever been that simple? The park might not be going ahead, but that didn't mean it hadn't stopped causing trouble. And with Muldoon having returned to his position at Hammond's park in Kenya, he wasn't exactly difficult to find. In fact he swore they'd timed it on purpose to stop him heading off on hunting expeditions where he couldn't be found. Who better for them to hire to make sure there weren't any nasty surprises in Costa Rica than a man who'd handled their worst and had proven he'd keep his mouth shut about it? He should have said no. He told himself he'd agreed because he'd felt a sense of responsibility for those animals and everyone they'd affected. That was certainly true. But it wasn't the only reason, either.

Nevertheless, right now he's glad of having a table with a bit of shade so he can go over the map. He's aware that his role is, hopefully, a simple escort and guide job, but it's been a while since he travelled around here and InGen is pretty eager not to involve the locals. So studying the map it is. Besides, it gives him plenty to do while he waits for the representative to sort out where his partner is.
